Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Hope you enjoyed our long walk around Peekskill.

The yellow brick road in the children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was inspired by the yellow brick road in Peekskill. I ran out of time before wandering down Hudson Street to find the yellow brick road, so you get an asphalt road here instead. (that's how it goes sometimes.) L. Frank Baum was a resident of Peekskill for a short time, attending classes at the military academy and writing fanciful little scraps of stories for fun.

Park Street: The buildings on this block appear to be the same as they were in the 1920's or earlier.

Park Street again (the other side of the street.)

On the waterfront.

Chocolate covered strawberry shakes, egg creams, candies and gum of days gone by at The Treat Station on Division Street.

Tried to make this photo look older by using iPhoto retouching.

Goodbye little diner, I think I'll miss you most of all.
