Graveyard

I don't know why this little tree hasn't started to bloom. It didn't appear to be dead.

Odd Home

This odd residence was once the Loomis Casino building. I saw an old postcard of the interior once, and it was beautiful. The interior had a large stone fireplace, gaming tables, sofas, and upstairs there were pool tables. More than fifty years later, I wonder what the interior looks like?

Old Images of Walnut Mountain

Walnut Mountain looks down on The Village of Liberty. In the past "Welcome to Liberty" post, you can see Walnut Mountain clearly in the background of that shot (Center).
An old post card shows off one of the Mountain's features.

Loomis Sanitorium

J. Pierpont Morgan was the main investor, with Dr. Loomis. They purchased over 700 acres in Liberty and built a facility for the treatment of tuberculosis. It has been closed since 1943, and most of the land and cottages were auctioned off by 1952. For awhile, Loomis was a village of sorts, just outside of the village of Liberty. Although within easy walking distance, consumptives were not welcomed in downtown Liberty, and so Loomis had entertainments for its patients. (these included a casino, dance hall, recreational areas, swimming areas, orchards, sheep meadows, and a working farm.) Today this building's future is unknown.
